Bee Wise, Get Immunised!
Apr 23, 2023

This week is World Immunisation Week.

World Immunisation Week aims to highlight the collective action needed to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease. The ultimate goal of World Immunisation Week is for more people – and their communities – to be protected from vaccine-preventable diseases.

THINK Hauora have this week launched a new campaign encouraging whānau of all ages to roll up their sleeves, bee wise and get immunised.

The campaign aims to highlight a number of vaccines that are often free and readily available on the National Immunisation Schedule. This Schedule details the series of vaccines that are offered free to babies, children, adolescents and adults in New Zealand.

This includes vaccines such as Influenza, Rotovirus, Meningococcal B, MMR, and Tetanus.

THINK Hauora Immunisation Facilitator Abby Davis says that immunisation is the best form of defence against a range of serious diseases and viruses in the MidCentral region.

"Immunisations can help protect the whole whānau - from young pēpi (babies) to our tīpuna (grandparents). Getting immunised against serious diseases means we can protect the ones we love," says Abby.

"Please speak to your GP to ensure you are up to date with your vaccinations. We also offer two weekly childhood immunisation clinics in Palmerston North and Horowhenua."
