Easy to access advice and care from
your local pharmacy

Pharmacists are medicine experts who offer services to the general public through pharmacies. 


Your local community pharmacists are essential members of the healthcare team and may often be the most accessible health professionals for you and your whānau to see. They work in pharmacies across the district to prepare and dispense prescribed medicines. There are more than 30 community pharmacies across the MidCentral district. Find a pharmacy near you.


Community pharmacies offer a range of services, including:

  • Dispensing medication and providing advice on how to use them
  • Offering health screening services such as blood pressure checks and blood glucose tests
  • Administering vaccinations
  • Providing advice and medication for a range of health conditions, some examples include: 
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Headaches
  • Headlice, nits and scabies
  • Emergency contraception pill
  • Coughs, colds and allergies
  • Support to help stop smoking
  • Pain relief
  • Eye infections
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Referring to other health professionals where necessary
  • Providing general health education and advice
  • Offering compliance packaging such as blister packs
  • Disposing of unused or expired medicine
