Partnership for your Health

You and your whānau will know a lot about your own health. It is good to be aware of health concerns that run in the family. Our aunties, grandparents and others may tell you what they have learnt and have good advice on how to stay well.

The things you can do to take an active role in your health include the following:

  • Enrol with a General Practice,
  • Get to know your General Practice team and find out how they can work with you and your whānau to stay well,
  • Know your rights as a patient,
  • Build a relationship with your local Pharmacist. Feel free to talk to them about common ailments and medicines and how they can help you and your whānau,
  • If you are unsure about dealing with health professionals check out simple tools to help you have good conversations ,
  • Know where you can access afterhours care close to home,
  • In an emergency, don’t wait, dial 111 immediately.
