Te Ara Rau Access & Choice (TARAC), also known as the “Pathway of Unlimited Possibilities,” is part of the Connecting Communities Team. TARAC provides brief psychological interventions and hauora support to individuals across the MidCentral region, ensuring care is accessible, inclusive, and responsive.

 

We’re excited to invite you to join THINK Hauora as a Mātanga Whai Ora – Gender Affirming, working within Te Ara Rau Access & Choice (TARAC) as part of The Tūturu Service. This is a fantastic opportunity to cover parental leave for six months.

 

About The Tūturu Service
This service recognises that individuals are the experts in their own gender and sexuality — however they choose to identify. This includes binary-trans, non-binary, transgender, tangata ira tāne, agender, whakawahine, tāhine, fakaleitī, leitī, akava’ine, fa’afafine, genderqueer, and gender diverse identities.

 

The team works alongside whānau and families to support gender exploration and social affirmation, creating safe and empowering spaces for identity and wellbeing.

 

As a Mātanga Whai Ora – Gender Affirming, your responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver Brief Psychological Interventions using evidence-based approaches (e.g., CBT, ACT, MI) within a stepped care model.
  • Support Tāngata Whaiora and Whānau through needs assessments, care planning, and culturally affirming, trauma-informed practices.
  • Coordinate Care Across Services, including general practice teams, NGOs, and secondary services, ensuring seamless and inclusive support.
  • Promote Gender Affirming Healthcare, providing education, psychosocial support, and facilitating access to gender affirming treatments.
  • Strengthen Community and Provider Relationships, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of resources and building strong intersectoral links.
  • Champion Equity and Rainbow Health Outcomes, engaging with health and wellbeing providers to support culturally responsive service delivery.

 

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered health professional with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
  • Experience or developing expertise in gender affirming care.
  • Lived experience within the Rainbow community is highly valued.
  • Competence in brief psychological interventions and talking therapies.
